Carrera-Podium's philosophy is based on a constant evolution of shapes and materials. Research is fundamental in order to apply new technology correctly. Certainly research does not stop only at the mechanical property but also the athlete-bicycle union has a role in the development of new frames. The R & D carefully follows the most advanced bio-mechanical studies to build frames for every athlete to achieve the best performance.
Carbon Fiber has the remarkable characteristics of rigidity, lightness, comfort and sturdiness and is a very versatile material to work with. Carrera uses only the highest grade of pre-impregnated fibres interlaced to obtain structural elements. The epoxy soaked fibers are autoclaved at high temperatures and with a vacuum system to homogenize the solid material. The fibers are high modulus uni and bi-directional for structural layers and multi directional for the finishing skin. In critical high stress areas Kevlar fibers are added. Different layers can be increased or decreased in order to meet the optimum of strength, rigidity and lightweight. Carbon represents the most advanced technical material used in the bicycle world.
The new Estremo and Estremo Light models represent the cutting edge of Carrera's well known technology. These models utilize a new "LAMINATED CARBON" process. The carbon tubes for Estremo are precisely mitered and fastened with special aerospace resins and then laminated with layers of carbon at precise angles in order to guarantee lightness, comfort and rigidity. The layering by hand of different strips onto the joints also allows for complete customized frames built on size by personalized measurements. The Carrrera quality and experience in this technology is unrivalled and takes the Estremo to the pinnacle of the world's finest bicycles.
The Estremo model is offered in 6 stock sizes and is available custom on size. The frameset features replaceable rear drop outs and integrated headset and the ultralight Pegaso 1 1/8" full carbon fork. Estremo frame weighs 1130 grams and the Estremo Light model weighs an astounding 925 grams. The Estremo Light model uses carbon drop-outs and the Pegaso Light fork at 320 grams.
